Bonsai No More

I love the imagery of this latest article from Spiritled Woman: Come Out of Confinement by Margie Houmes. In it, the author paints a poignant illustration of a man-altered tree, the bonsai, versus a God-created tree that flourishes like an oak planted by streams of living water, providing shade and shelter for all. Referring to the Bonsai, Houmes says it “has become another man’s vision, not what was originally intended. The Creator had a purpose in mind, but another imposed his own plan and formed a distortion of the original intent that, though beautiful, is limited in its function“. I don’t think I will ever look at a Bonsai plant the same again.

May we never impose our own ideas and expectations onto another man or woman’s life but allow the Creator to lead and guide that person into their ultimate destiny and call. We tend to look at the outward appearance but God looks at the heart (1 Samuel 16:7). We are called to pray and plant seeds of encouragement and leave correction to God for the Lord ultimately disciplines those He loves (Proverbs 3:11-12).
